BORESHA-Horn-Of-Africa-CARE

CARE is a global humanitarian organization providing disaster relief to areas in crisis, while providing long-term solutions to poverty around the world. CARE works with poor communities to help them become self-sufficient and advocate for policies at local, regional and national levels to improve gender equity and address the underlying causes of poverty. We currently focus on emergency and development programs on Food & Nutrition Security and Climate Change; Emergency response; Sexual, Reproductive & Maternal Health and Women’s Economic Empowerment.

CARE International through country offices in Kenya, Somalia and Ethiopia is a key partner in implementing result three of the ‘Building Opportunities for Resilience in the Horn of Africa’ BORESHA project funded by the European Union Trust Fund for Africa.

BORESHA’s overall objective is to promote economic development and greater resilience, particularly among vulnerable groups in the Mandera Triangle and CARE is specifically implementing outcome three of the project on cross-border rangeland and other shared natural resources management.

CARE is working with communities, regional, local and county government to ensure proper implementation and sustainability of the project along and across the border areas.

CARE’S roles and responsibilities in natural resource management include:

  1. Strengthening the planning and management of cross-border natural resources
  2. Community-led protection and rehabilitation of rangelands and management of invasive species
  3. Installation of roof rain water harvesting in 30 schools across the border of the three countries and build capacity on environmental management
  4. Rehabilitation or construction of 9 water points across the border area.
